Leading up to Veterans Day, held annually on Nov. 11, ɫ is celebrating the nation’s community members who have served in the military.
As part of the University’s Veterans Week program, ɫ University students, faculty, and staff will host various events.
Here’s a preview of what’s ahead:
The Office of Military and Veteran Student Services, alongside Campus Ministry, will be hosting a screening of “Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain’s Journey.” This screening will be followed by a discussion with Army Chaplain Father Peter Pomposello about the nature of his work and the vocation of serving one’s country. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in Hannan Hall Room 108.
David Clark, a professor of anthropology, will give a presentation about the work he has done to recover missing in action soldiers lost abroad in various global conflicts. “Never Forgotten: America’s Missing in Action” event is at 6 p.m. and is located in the Della Ratta Auditorium in Maloney Hall.
Greek and Latin students will also present at the discussion to detail how the Romans would uncover soldiers during the Trojan War. Clark called the event a “commemoration of America's MIA combatants. It serves as an awareness program in our CUA community. And it is a tribute to those who put themselves in harm’s way to recover and bring home our missing heroes. … We are forever mindful of those across America hoping for the return of their lost loved ones.”
A 12:05 p.m. Mass in St. Michael’s Chapel will honor the sacrifices made by veterans. Those in attendance will also pray for the repose of ɫ University community members who have served and died in combat.
The Student Government Organization will partner with various other student-led organizations to lay flags in honor of fallen ɫ University community members.
University President Peter Kilpatrick is expected to attend a book drive, hosted by Blue Star Families, in Caldwell Hall for teachers and veterans throughout Veterans Day morning.
Before the season-ending football game with Juniata College, a tailgate will be hosted for members of the campus ROTC program. All are invited.
