Program Requirements
- Coursework: A minimum of 24 credit hours in moral theology at the 700 or 800 level, plus 6 additional credits for the thesis.
- Core Course: All students must take TRS 799 Proseminar for New Doctoral Students.
- Research Guidance: Students must register for research guidance (TRS 993) for three successive semesters, beginning with the second semester of enrollment, to help prepare and write the thesis.
Language Requirements
- Ancient Languages: Proficiency in Latin and Greek.
- Modern Languages: Reading proficiency in either French or German.
Thesis
- Length and Content: The thesis must demonstrate the ability to conduct scientific research in moral theology, contributing original knowledge to the field.
- Approval: Students must get their thesis proposal approved by their director and a reader, and then by the academic area faculty and the Ecclesiastical Degrees Committee.
Comprehensive Examinations
- Written Exams: Two written exams covering different topics in moral theology.
- Oral Exam: An oral examination following the written exams.
- Eligibility: Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 to qualify for the comprehensive examinations.
